Unison
DARPA’s Unison program seeks innovative proposals for collaborative-autonomy approaches that jointly adapt team decision-making and communications during mission execution. Its core hypothesis is that unified execution-time reasoning for action and communications planning can improve effectiveness, scalability, and resilience in dynamic, uncertain, and resource-constrained environments. The program aims to preserve mission performance while reducing communication dependence and bounding the reasoning burden on individual agents. Unison frames collaborative autonomy as a multi-agent decision problem in which agents use local observations, mission context, relevance, and objectives to jointly select physical and communications actions and maintain required coordination relationships. It will investigate approaches across teams of tens to hundreds of agents in representative collaborative, multi-domain mission scenarios.
