The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) seeks industry feedback on DRAFT PS-23-03. DARPA plans to solicit innovative proposals in the following technical domain: long endurance, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned air systems (UAS) providing Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) and Targeting (T) while operating off of U.S. Navy surface combatants and at forward-deployed U.S. Marine Corps austere locations. The UAS is expected to operate 24/7 in high sea states (up to sea state 3) and in adverse weather (e.g., wind, rain). Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that exploit lightweight VTOL configurations; advanced VTOL control concepts; advanced propulsion and power components; automated takeoff and landing sensors and software; and low Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) mission payloads. Specifically excluded is research that primarily results in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice.
