Navy Medicine plans to procure a new Surfacing System of optical fabrication equipment to replace the outdated and increasingly irreparable current system that dates from 8 to 12 years of age and reestablish funding for routine life cycle replacement at the normal 5 to 7 years required. The new equipment is to be technologically advanced, automated, and commercially proven to function efficiently, meeting current as well as any new requirements for Surfacing fabrication in the foreseeable future. Equipment is required to be obtained with the most expeditious contract vehicle available and to that end sole sourcing should be considered.
