FEDBIZOPPS.GOV ANNOUNCEMENT: SPECIAL NOTICE CLASSIFICATION CODE: R SUBJECT: Power supply for Electromagnet SOLICITATION NUMBER: NB732010-19-00909 CONTACT POINTS: BRIAN JAMIESON, Contracts Specialist (301) 975-8276; TODD HILL, Contracting Officer (301) 975-8802 DESCRIPTION: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1), with TDK-Lambda 1110 Elden Street, Suite 207 Herndon, VA 20170 for the acquisition of a PHV Series precision high voltage model# PHV0.125F80000-3P208, to be used by the National Institutes of Standards & Technology, HVAC Equipment and Performance Group. ***** Sole source determination is based on the need for an electromagnet power supply that can operate at 100%. The HVAC&R Equipment performance group needs to purchase a power supply for an existing electromagnet. The power supply will be used to drive our 2 ohm electromagnet. Unit will have at least 4 1/2 digit voltage/current meters with front panel output voltage limit control and a 3 yr. warranty. Unit must be able to deliver 100%, not 80% as is offered by other manufacturers. No power supply other than that offered by TDK-Lambda can operate the magnet at 100%. We will not be able to create the desired experimental effect without generating 100% of the desired magnetic field. Our experiment requires that we use the electromagnet to produce and measure the magnetocaloric effect of new materials. A magnetic field operated at less than 100% will not allow us to accurately make this measurement. *****The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 335311- Power, Distribution and Specialty Transformer Mfg. with a small business size standard of 750 employees. ****** A determination by the Government whether to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. *****Interested parties that believe they could satisfy the requirements listed above for NIST may clearly and unambiguously identify their capability to do so in writing on or before the response date for this notice. This notice of intent is not a solicitation. Any questions regarding this notice must be submitted in writing via email to Brian Jamieson at Brian.Jamieson@nist.gov. All responses to this notice of intent must be submitted so that they are received at Brian.Jamieson@nist.gov no later than April 12, 2019 at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
