Commercial Cloud-to-Ground (CG) Lightning Data Feed
NOAA/NWS is conducting market research for a commercial Cloud-to-Ground lightning data feed that provides continuous, real-time, encrypted telemetry for ingest into operational forecasting systems including AWIPS, CIRRUS, and MRMS. The feed must cover designated CONUS and OCONUS zones, including specific Alaska and Hawaii requirements, and meet strict metrics for flash/stroke classification, location accuracy, timing, detection efficiency, polarity, peak current, and multiplicity. Data must stream securely to the NWS Telecommunications Gateway within 1 minute of detection for CONUS and 2 minutes for OCONUS, with Level I data archived at NCEI and NWS MDL. Interested vendors should demonstrate commercial ground-based lightning detection network capabilities, sensor physics, spatial accuracy, delivery protocols, and relevant federal or commercial operational experience. Responses will inform competition and set-aside assessments under GSA schedules or open-market commercial procedures.
