Narrow-band Mid-IR Laser with Tunable Wavelength and Repetition Rate. NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENTS EXIST AT THIS TIME This requirement is anticipated for Fiscal Year 2022. The Nanoscale device characterization division (NDCD) of NIST is seeking information on a narrow band laser source with widely tunable wavelength to be used in UHV cryogenic nanoscale spectroscopy applications with the following specifications: Specifications The laser source shall consist of a single laser or of an array of lasers housed in a single enclosure emitting collinear light from a single port for all the emitted wavelengths. The laser source shall emit light pulses with at a wavelength tunable at minimum: - between 2.5 µm (4000 cm-1) and 4.0 µm (2500 cm-1) without gaps and - between 5.0 µm (2000 cm-1) and 16.0 µm (625 cm-1) without gaps. - additional tuning range > 16 µm (625 cm-1), if available, is preferred. - additional tuning range between 4.0 µm (2500 cm-1) and 5.0 µm (2000 cm-1) is useful if available - additional tuning range < 2.5 µm (4000 cm-1) is useful if available. The laser source shall emit light pulses with at an average power: - > 5 mW for wavelengths < 16.0 µm Tuning curves (average power vs wavelength will be useful) The laser shall emit light with linearly polarization in the vertical direction The laser source shall emit light pulses or a macro-pulses composed by several shorter pulses with repetition rate, or modulation frequency, tunable at least between 1 kHz to 2000 kHz or wider range and enable repetition rate sweeps (< 1 KHz resolution) between 1 kHz and 2000 kHz in less than 60 s. The vendor shall provide the repetition rate resolution or modulation frequency resolution, if constant in the 1 kHz to 2000 kHz frequency range or, if not constant, specify the values of repetition rate or modulation frequencies attainable with the laser as a list or as formula that allows determining all the possible frequencies. The ability to perform frequency or modulation frequency sweeps of at least 100 Hz around a central frequency between 32 kHz and 500 kHz with a resolution of 1 Hz or better is preferred. The source shall emit light pulses with a linewidth smaller than 5 cm-1 The Laser system shall enable continuous tuning of the emitted wavelength at rate of 50 cm-1/s or faster between 2.5 µm (4000 cm-1) and 4.0 µm (2500 cm-1) and between 5.0 µm (2000 cm-1) and 16.0 µm (625 cm-1) or broader range. The laser system shall emit light pulses with a pulse length > 1 ps and < 500 ns. The laser should include a collinear visible laser output for alignment and troubleshooting purposes. After results of this market research are obtained and analyzed and specifications are developed for a vendor that can meet NIST's minimum requirements, NIST may conduct a competitive procurement and subsequently award a Purchase Order. If at least two qualified small businesses are identified during this market research stage, then any competitive procurement that resulted would be conducted as a small business set-aside. NIST is seeking responses from all responsible sources, including large, foreign, and small businesses. Small businesses are defined under the associated NAICS code for this effort, 334516, as those domestic sources with a size standard of 1,000 employees or less. Please include your company’s size classification and socio-economic status in any response to this notice. Companies that provide equipment that can meet the stated requirements are requested to email a detailed report describing their products to forest.crumpler@nist.gov no later than the response date for this sources sought notice. The report should include achievable specifications and any other information relevant to your product or capabilities.
