It is not a solicitation and does not constitute a request for quotation or proposal, now, or in the future. This RFI does not commit the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to contract for any supply or service. 1 INTRODUCTION The USPTO currently outsources the management of its application storage infrastructure through a Storage Infrastructure Managed Services (SIMS) task order. The SIMS vendor is responsible for the purchase, design, development and ongoing maintenance of the SIMS storage infrastructure, and bills the USPTO monthly for all infrastructure and services on a per-terabyte (TB) basis, based on the amount of provisioned storage capacity. In addition to anticipating the ongoing requirement for the services provided under the SIMS task order, the USPTO is in the process of identifying and researching additional Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) needs for other components of its IT infrastructure. Currently, the SIMS task order is the only sizable IaaS requirement managed by USPTO. 2 PURPOSE The USPTO is issuing this RFI to obtain information from the storage and IaaS services and equipment industry to understand the breadth of technologies, services and providers available, and to help inform future acquisition plans. The RFI will explore market interest and capability to meet the USPTO’s managed storage and IaaS objectives and needs. Because the USPTO currently has a managed storage task order, the primary interest of this RFI is managed storage; however, additional IaaS offerings are also of interest to the USPTO. For additional RFI information, please see the ATTACHMENT: Storage and IaaS RFI.
