The objective of this requirement is to provide NIST with access to an independent consultant to conduct a survey of NIST’s safety culture of NIST employees to provide a report detailing the survey’s findings, benchmarks of the survey’s findings against other similar organizations’, recommendations for improvement, and noteworthy practices; and to assist NIST in identifying corrective actions and program-improvement initiatives to improve safety at NIST. The Department of Commerce and NIST is requiring this study after an accident which resulted in a fatality on the NIST Gaithersburg campus.
