The Surface and Trace Chemical Analysis Group (STCAG) of the Materials Measurement Science Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), produces trace explosives and narcotics test materials (TMs) used by federal agencies involved in counter-terrorism efforts such as the Transportation Security Agency, Customs and Border Patrol, United States Secret Service, US Capitol Police and US Department of State. These test materials are critical for the performance validation and field calibration of currently deployed detection equipment worldwide. The metrology infrastructure required for the production of the test materials has been developed over the last ten years by our lab and includes qualitative and quantitative procedures to ensure the validity, traceability, and stability of the TMs. Several years ago, a triple quadrupole gas chromatography mass spectrometry system (GC/MS) was procured as one of the main analytical workhorses for these analyses because of its ability to accurately characterize and quantify trace explosives and narcotics. Because of high use, the Z-axis arm on the TriPlusRSH autosampler has failed and needs to be replaced. Replacement of this part is critical for the continued use of this instrument and success of the mission. Reference the attached document for the complete solicitation.
