The original configuration of the WSR-88D included a Kohler generator, Kohler Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) and two Diesel fuel tanks per shelter. Due to the criticality of having weather radar data available during utility power losses associated with severe weather, the WSR-88D system was designed to provide continuous stable power to the radar under all circumstances. Accordingly, the generator, ATS, and fuel tanks are integrated with the Radar Data Acquisition (RDA) equipment and Transition Power Management System (TPMS) equipment. See Attachments
