USNPRC has specific needs in maintaining their SPF birds free from pathogenic organisms, including but not limited too Salmonella, E.coli and external contaminates. USNPRC does not have the space to store feed in bulk and a feed supply must be readily available as needed. Feed requirements fluctuate dependent on species, age and size of the flocks housed throughout the year. Accurate and consistent feed recipes are necessary to maintain egg production capacity of the flocks. Poultry feed, for various stages of growth and species will be supplied in 25 to 50 pound bags to raise and maintain USNPRCs Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) flocks. Feed being purchased from Oglethorpe Feed and Hardware is as follows: Purina Flock Raiser Crumbles for chicks. Purina Start and Grow for adolescent birds. Kalmbach Layer Pellets for our adult birds laying birds. Gamebird Starter (Cargill Feed) for turkey poults- turkey adult. Super Breeder (Cargill Feed) for adult turkeys at laying age. These feeds were chosen based on nutrition requirements for each age group and bird type. These specific feeds meet our requirements better than other currently available commercial feeds. Feed will need to be sourced no more than 25 miles from USNPRC to allow for pickup by USNPRC Staff.
