USDA’s National Centers for Animal Health in Ames, Iowa, includes an aquaculture facility in the basement of building 20. The water service for the aquaculture facility is connected at the most hydraulically remote point in the water service for building 20. In the event of a failure of the building or campus water supply, there won’t be sufficient pressure and flow to keep aquaculture operating. The objectives of this project are to add redundancy to the aquaculture water supply by connecting the aquaculture system service nearer to the building’s domestic water entrance. Work includes adding a new, 8” pressure reducing valve along with a dedicated 4” water service to directly supply the aquaculture system from the main water service. Additional valves and a low flow bypass around the new pressure reducing valve will be added throughout the system. Hot tapping will be required for new piping connections to existing systems. The NAICS code for the project is 238220 – Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning Contractors, with a small business size standard of $19 million. The estimated magnitude of the project is between $100,000 and $250,000. The solicitation and all other documents related to this procurement will be available on SAM on or around June 18, 2024. It is the responsibility of interested parties to monitor this site for the solicitation and amendments, if any.
