The US Forest Service Nursery in Placerville CA has a need to repair, replace or upgrade the cooling system in the seedling freezer. This space is approximately 40’x 40’ and 15’ high resulting in a space of ~25,000 cu ft that needs to be maintained at a temperature year-round of 0-5 degrees F. This project involves the replacement of one, with the option for another (total of two), seedbank freezer refrigeration units with high-efficiency liquid-cooled units at the El Dorado National Forest Nursery. Included in the work is the evaluation, removal and disposal of the old refrigeration units and the installation of new units. The building where the equipment is being replaced is in Seed Freezer #2 at the Placerville Nursery. The building was built in 1979 and is approximately 25,000 cu ft. Planning thermal load will be 70,000-75,000 btu. Insulation is unknown. Materials submitted will be have maximum SEER rating for application. Submittal will include all costs associated with materials and labor for removal of failed unit, installation of new unit, and sealing of any wall penetrations (new or abandoned). New unit could be single or in pair, cost and efficiency are high priority of the agency.
