The Eight Mile Fuels Reduction Project is located on National Forest System Land administered by the San Juan National Forest (SJNF), Pagosa Ranger District. It is in Archuleta County, Colorado approximately 5 miles south of the Town of Pagosa Springs. Legal description of the project area is T.34N, R.2W, Sections 24,025, 36, T.34N, R.1SW, Sections 24,25, T.34N, R.1W, Sections 16, 19, 20, 21, 29, 30. The project falls completely within the wildland-urban interface. The project area is within the Rio Blanco watershed, a major tributary of the San Juan River.
