The US Forest Service (Alaska Region) seeks to procure (3) brand name only Honda Fourtrax Rancher ATVs. Delivery locations are Hoonah, AK and Thorne Bay, AK. The Government intends to award one firm fixed price contract resulting from this solicitation. See attachments for additional details. Quotes are due March 22nd, 2022 at 12:00PM (AKST) Alaska Time, via email. Justification for Brand Name only: There are only 3 Brands of ATVs that can be serviced in SE Alaska (Honda, Can-Am, or ArcticCat). The location of these vendors and where the purchased items will be delivered to are accessible only by marine ferry or by air, making warranty or major repair work difficult. Hoonah: The Honda Fourtrax Rancher is the only model that can be serviced in SE Alaska and meets the needed requirements of lightweight enough to allow multiple ATV’s to load on a landing craft for field project work. Thorne Bay: The Honda Fourtrax Rancher is the only model that can be serviced in SE Alaska and meets the needed requirements of 400cc in combination with Auxiliary Recoil Starter needed for remote field locations where power to charge batteries is not available. This brand name request (FAR 6.302-1) reduces the duplication of costs [FAR 6.303-2(b)(9)(ii)] associated with having work performed. Other possible brands would have to be shipped to Seattle or Anchorage for warranty or major repair work.
