DESCRIPTION OF SINGLE SOURCE PURCHASE The USDA Forest Service awarded a purchase order for the furnishing and delivery of four (4) De-composting Toilets to the Clackamas River Ranger District and Bagby Natural Resource Area (NRA), Mt. Hood National Forest. Four (4) de-composting toilets are needed at popular recreation sites that are not easily accessible by road. As such, the toilets at these sites cannot be pumped by a sanitation company. These toilets will replace cesspools that have been on site for many years – bringing the agency into compliance with environmental standards. We are seeking toilets utilizing decomposting technology to service these sites. Decomposting technology begins with a seat that diverts 99% of the urine that enters the unit to a small onsite leach field. The solid waste goes into the vault where it is consumed by bugs. Once the waste passes through the bugs, most of the pathogens are destroyed, stabilizing the waste, eliminating odors and greatly diminishing the volume waste needed to be removed. This is desirable even to a composting toilet as the de-composting toilets work at up to 12,000 feet in elevation and do not require that waste be removed as regularly as composting toilets. Not needing to remove waste as often is essential given USDA Forest Service staffing limitations.
