The Biosafety Officer at US National Poultry Research Center (USNPRC) has the need to purchase a chlorine dioxide decontamination unit to be utilized in HEPA filter decontaminations. These decontaminations are necessary for research integrity and personnel safety after and between when experiments are conducted and for certification of the filters that serve these spaces. The required specifications for the chlorine dioxide machine decontamination machine are that it is portable, have the ability to be physically moved from various spaces utilizing a handle and wheels for personnel safety, up and down stairs and utilize the same connections relative to filters that need to be decontaminated and certified and utilize the same chemicals as an existing machine currently on campus. The machine must have the ability to be connected to various fittings for the decontamination process. The chlorine dioxide machine must be able to decontaminate small space volumes up to 120 cubic feet. The machine must be able to generate chlorine dioxide gas utilizing chemical packets and provide a neutralization process as well. This ensures the gas generated is neutralized at the end of the decontamination process. An aeration function that is included or integrated within this decontamination unit is critical in reducing decontamination cycle downtime to expedite the decontamination process to facilitate research.
