UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH SERVICE USDA_ARS_SHRS SPECIFICATIONS Introduction: Scientists at the Miami Station (ARS_SHRS) Cacao Genetics Laboratory need an instrument that homogenizes plant material so that DNA extractions can be effectively performed. Homogenization is important because the plant cell needs to be disrupted to get to the DNA that is in the nucleus of the plant. Doing this by hand is very laborious and does not always yield high quality DNA. An instrument that consistently grinds the plant material gives more uniform results of higher quality. Different types of material are received (leaves, root stalk, flowers, and pods) and it is important that there are different attachments to process different sized samples. Our lab is a high throughput lab, with many samples being processed at a time and we need an instrument that is capable of handling 192 samples at once. Scope: The company shall provide a plant cell disruption system that is capable of handling 192 samples at once, as well as attachments such as a grinding jar that can handle large samples. Technical Requirements: The plant tissue disrupter must be delivered to USDA/ARS/SHRS; Miami, FL and SHRS personnel will unload it into building 89. Truck drivers will need to coordinate with SHRS personnel on delivery times and schedules but normal hours of 8:00am -4:30pm Monday-Friday are anticipated, with no delivery between 12pm and 1pm. Delivery is anticipated to start upon contract award and must be completed by 08/01/2023. Place of performance: USDA/ARS/SHRS 13601 Old Cutler Road Miami, FL 33158 Period of Performance: Contract award to 08/01/2023 Government Furnished: 1) Access to the facility during normal business operations (Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm) 2) Location for delivery. Performance Requirement Measures: Tissue disrupter required within the listed period of performance.
