Description It is the intent of this contract to secure labor and equipment necessary to complete 146 acres of sub-merchantable tree and shrub cutting/reduction within the Northwest Sands project area on the Washburn Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Bayfield County, Wisconsin. Sub-merchantable tree and shrub cutting/reduction will consist of cutting target vegetation with brush saws and/or chainsaws, during appropriate dry soil conditions, with the desire to kill unwanted sub-merchantable tree and shrub species (aspen, oak, birch, hazelnut, willow and maple). Trees and shrubs are to be cut to a height of less than 6 inches above the ground. See detailed descriptions for each line item below for specific requirements of each work area. Throughout the area there are scattered pockets and individual pine (jack pine, white pine and red pine), these are to remain uncut and undamaged. Other species to reserve include cherry (Prunus sp.) and service berry (Amelanchier sp.) where possible. The 146 acres to be treated occur in three (3) work areas within the Moquah Barrens and Northwest Sands project area. The perimeter of each work area will be delineated on the ground with pink flagging prior to treatments beginning. Refer to the provided georeferenced maps for exact locations of the work areas.
