The scope of this service is to help prepare a range of high-quality, written, visual, and (Section 508-compliant or Section 508-ready) accessible products to disseminate technical or scientific information and technical procedures. “Section 508” refers to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 USC § 794d), and the U.S. Access Board’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Final Standards and Guidelines (Refresh Rule, Jan. 2017). “Section 508-ready” means the native file (the default file format a software application is designed to work with) has 508-required characteristics—such as styles, reading order, fonts, links, etc.—built in so that an exported .pdf results in a file that needs minimal remediation to be 508-compliant.
