The Custer Gallatin National Forest (CGNF) is proposing a cultural resource management project consisting of a Class III 100% level inventory of 2416 acres of treatment units on National Forest lands on the Gardner District of the CGNF, Montana within the 19,730 acre Cooke City Fuels and Forest Health project area as displayed on Attachment Project Map 2. The Cooke City Fuels and Forest Health project is one of the top hazardous fuels treatment projects for the CGNF to accomplish. The purpose of the inventory is to locate, map and record all cultural resources found within the boundaries of the treatment units and access routes for this project. The project area is located in Park County, just north of the town of Cooke City and 56 miles east of the town of Gardiner. The area is known for a number of abandoned mining features. It is within the Gardiner Ranger District boundary. Attachment 2 Map displays the project area.
