CPSC currently has two data centers that house server equipment at each of these locations to provide specific services for on and offsite staff. To ensure that the availability of services and management of these sites is not interrupted CPSC has chosen to employ HP servers across the network. The decision to purchase these servers and deploy agency wide was based on the testing and evaluation of several different manufacturers of server hardware. CPSC chose Hewlett Packard based on performance, features, innovation and competitive pricing. The TSNE department is responsible for managing all of the servers across the agency. It is imperative that all of the servers are of the same manufacturer to ensure that we are able to utilize the HP management tools that we have invested heavily in. It has taken CPSC several years to install all of the hardware associated with these servers as well as the configuration of the management software utilities. Without purchasing HP equipment, CPSC staff would not be able to manage and monitor all aspects of the server hardware, analyze server performance or ensure that server hardware provides the maximum amount of uptime. If CPSC were to procure server hardware from another vendor such as Dell or IBM, and not Hewlett Packard it would be financially detrimental to the CPSC as well as compromise and overly complicate CPSC’s data center infrastructure. If another vendor were chosen, additional management servers would need to be installed and configured with new fibre channel switches and data replication equipment that would need to be procured and installed. This would also lead to a higher cost of obtaining and installing the new hardware as well as the additional cost associated with the additional software, management and training that would need to be invested into.
