USAID Liberia Mission is funding the construction of the Ganta-Gbarnga Grid Extension Project. The grid extension consists of 77 km three phase 33 kV medium voltage line, 25 km single phase MV distribution line, and about 10 km low voltage line with 500 service connections to end customers in Gbarnga. Power supply to the grid extension will be provided from the Danane-Ganta Cross Border system from Ivory Coast. The construction of the grid extension and connections to end customers is expected to commence construction before October 2020. The grid extension will operate at 50 Hz frequency in line with existing Liberia grid, and among other customers will provide electricity to key institutions such as the Phebe Hospital, Cuttington University (CU), Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI), Bong County Technical College (BCTC), and C.B. Dunbar Hospital. At present, electricity to these institutions is supplied by diesel generators
