The regional Senior Strategic Information (SI) Technical Advisor/Epidemiologist is responsible for, and provides support to a variety of institutional components in the areas of SI to PEPFAR programs in the region. S/he is considered as the foremost expert in SI and in Epidemiology in support of the Southern Africa region and is the first point of call for PEPFAR teams in the region when a new initiative is introduced, when there is staff turnover, or when there is limited expertise that can be drawn on within the countries themselves. Specific technical expertise requested from the incumbent varies, and often peaks during preparation and submission of the Country Operational Plans (COPs) and during reporting times. The most common requests received by RHO for this position are likely to relate to assistance in all aspects of data analyses for the planning of COPs; assistance with UNAIDS EPP/Spectrum modeled estimates; assisting with routine reporting, including quarterly, semi-annual and annual PEPFAR reports, portfolio reviews, assistance with surveillance studies, Demographic Health Surveys (DHS) PHIAs, size-estimations, and other special studies. As a result of occasional staff shortages, the incumbent may also be requested from time to time to be COR/AOR or Activity Manager for programs in one of the client countries as required.
