The purpose of this SOO is to provide the strategic objectives for Asia Bureau’s new cross-sectoral urban activity. The scope of this project covers the technical approach in designing programs, activities and toolkits that will inform and determine the allocation of resources to assist select cities in Asia in addressing challenging f urban development paradigms. Potential areas of development assistance include, but are not limited to, i. social service provision, ii. urban environment and climate change issues; iii. addressing the unique needs of rural to urban migrant workers; iv. economic development to stimulate business and job creation; v. helping ensure VC resilience, supply and efficiencies in access to nutritious food; vi. helping facilitate and implement local policy initiatives, and vii helping facilitate access to municipal financing. To date, USAID’s direct engagement in the urban sector has been limited in scope. Considering the pace of urbanization in the Asia region over the last decade, it is imperative for the U.S. to demonstrate ongoing leadership and prioritize the increased challenges of urban development in order to improve development outcomes.
