The purpose of this acquisition is to purchase the 2019 Year-End Physician master file from the American Medical Association (AMA). This data file is needed to estimate current health occupational supply at the state and national level and to track health workforce trends over time. The AMA Physician Master File is unique, and one of the only sources of information on physicians that combines current information on locations and practices with information regarding their training and specialty. HRSA is contractually obligated to provide these data for inclusion in the Area Health Resources Files. HRSA also uses this data file every year, to examine trends over time. As the major membership organization for physicians, the AMA is in a unique position to compile and assure the completeness of this data. As well, this data is proprietary data of the AMA, and Medical Marketing Service, Inc. (MMS) is the sole supplier authorized by the AMA to market the Physician Masterfile.
