A solicitation document will not be issued and quotations will not be requested. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to award a fixed price contract with one (1) twelve-month base year to Anaerobe Systems, Inc., Morgan Hill, CA 95037 on a sole source basis to provide the AS-500 Anaerobic Chamber to the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM), Microbiology Service at the NIH Clinical Center (CC). The required equipment is necessary for the growth, isolation, and identification of anaerobic organisms from clinical patient specimens. These organisms require anaerobic environments in order to grow, and the AS-500 Anaerobic Chamber will provide the conditions necessary for said growth to occur. The AS-500 Anaerobic Chamber allows for flexibility of workflow in the DLM, Microbiology Service laboratory. Such flexibility includes the integration of a monitor within the chamber and direct connection to the laboratory information system; touchscreen controls that simplify cleaning and minimize contamination; and pedal free operation with gas-saving autocycle. These features will streamline and improve culture workups, and reduce staff errors as a result of being able to do direct entry while work is being done within the chamber. Anaerobe Systems, Inc. is the sole manufacturer and vendor for the AS-500 Anaerobic Chamber. This acquisition is being conducted using policies unique to the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 13 – Simplified Acquisition Procedures, Subpart 13.106-1(b)(1), For purchases not exceeding the simplified acquisition threshold (SAT), contracting officers may solicit from one source if the contracting officer determines that the circumstance of the contract action deem only one source reasonably available. Contracts awarded using FAR Part 13-Simplified Acquisition Procedures are exempt from the requirements of FAR Part 6-Competition Requirements. Interested parties may identify their interest and capabilities in response to this posting. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
